The Big Green Scunthorpe 10k - Central Park

Welcome to our third year of the Big Green Scunthorpe 10k! 

2023 and 24's event was fabulous, with overwhelming feedback! 

It made us all very proud to have created this event, in our home town. 

With a fantastic ROUTE perfect for spectators, fast times, and a great host location, 2025 is going to be amazing!

We plan to grow the event 'weekend' each year with other activities, but for now we're growing the event, so we hope to attract 1200 runners to Scunthorpe in 2025 and please share the event far and wide :)

Here's a few things planned in for 2025:

• Fast UKA licensed road course started by the legendary Annie Fanny (WHO IS ALSO RUNNING!), you can also meet some more of this years panto cast. Find out more panto news for runners here! (and scroll down)
• FREE MOCKTAIL at the finish line! Yep; a big green cocktail of course! 
• FREE COOKIE at the finish line! Purchased from our friends The Cookie People!
• Karen and her hosepipe! possibly most runners favourite bit of the event ... and Karen will be back on Brumby Wood Lane in 2025 whatever the weather! 
• FREE Wildflower seeds for every runner to help grow or wild spaces
• WE HAVE FULLY RECYCLED T-SHIRTS now available, you've asked us for the last two years and we've finally found the right solution :) add when you enter or if you forget - click here (design to follow!)
• Spectator friendly route, your spectators can see you start, at 3k, 7k and the finish all within 200 metres of each other! Check out the route here!
• The best 'Green medal' ever, we've been working for months with medal companies to produce something great for runners and great for the environment. Check out the medal design here! 
• The prettiest and greenest event village, with our incredible local parks team from North Lincolnshire Council working hard to make everything look extra special.
• On-site runners bar at the 7k mark (no stopping!) to relax in post event and provide your spectators with a place to chill and cheer!
• WIN A COMPOSTER! (TBC!) - oh yes, if you're the fastest male & female runners on the day ... you'll be walking away with a free composter thanks to North Lincolnshire Councils recycling team!
• Fully closed roads.
• BIG event atmosphere.

We've lots of work to do for future years, and weve some updates we need to add from 2024, it was a real challenge to bring a new event and do everything we wanted... but we've made a great start. As we've found it gets harder, as events get bigger.... but we will will always be mindful of everything we do and if we could possibly make it greener!

BE BETTER - NOT PERFECT, you'll see our motto all over the place. This represents our approach to our Big Green objectives. We're delivering 'normal' events you would expect... but trying with each element to do it a little bit better. We will be learning along the way. Those learnings are available for anyone, and we will share after the event. 

Everything wont be perfect, but thats ok... every event we will get better and better :)

Somethings we cant afford to do, somethings you may not want to pay extra for, some things are quite frankly rubbish, and somethings simply don't have green solutions for .... so WE ARE NOT PERFECT.... but WE WILL BE BETTER!

Here's our green plans from 2024s event.... and you know what ... it's hard, it's hard to find the time and find the right options, so we will keep plodding on :)

• We're increasing wild space, every runner will receive a pack of wildflower seeds to help at home and create a little spot for nature :) 
• We're increasing wild space even more, the event is supporting the creation of a wildflower meadow in Central Park working with North Lincs Council and their parks team. 
• Praying for sunshine... because our finish line gantry and PA system will be fully (we hope) solar powered, we've got the kit we just need the sunshine! 
• Plastic bottle free :) alongside you getting a free finish line Mocktail we will also be providing water in re-usable or bio cups, plus a water re-fill station at the finish. 
• Active travel, we've a lovely secure cycle storage hub set up and ready to use for you. Plus a bag drop for those walking, cycling or jogging in :)
• Fantastic wooden medals, it's taken lots of research to find the right ones... but we're confident we've got it right! Not only is it less impactful in production vs metal medals they are also UK based :)
• Local suppliers, where we can. Our traffic company are just 3 miles away, our finish line snacks are coming from 400 metres way, and our medals are coming from Yorkshire  :)
• Great for inspiring activity! - The Central Park team will be installing 1k, 3k and 5k markers in Central Park to create fantastic fixed routes for people to be able to go along at anytime and get active! 

Things we're working on (and would always appreciate a hand)

• Car sharing, so we're building this as a question into the entry system but were just working on how we can support you guys in the easiest and safest way to share your journeys... this is our biggest one to work on!
• Electric vehicles, so we've got our event electric vehicle but we could do with some support for an electric van to support the event. 
• PLOGGERS UNITE!, we're looking for a local team of people to litter pick and jog their way around the event and then the park ... if you can pull together a team of six together then get in touch and you'll join the run as a blogger! (so you get a free entry... you just need to jog and litter pick your way round!) 
• Event clothing, this was a tricky one... but for 2025 we have finally sourced 100% recycled t-shirts. You can add the on when you sign up... and profits from our t-shirts support our local 'active' project (free coaching for kids ... and free athletic track use for adults!)  :) 
• Optional medals?, ok we're not ready to do this yet, as we have to order the medals so far ahead of the day. But we may ask the question when you sign up to help us predict numbers. We would then convert this cost into a discount or tree planting type option/donation to our green project ?
